THE SEVEN HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE.
INTRO AND THE FIRST HABIT.
Hello good people..... I have a book that I have been reading for one of my classes and its "the seven habbits of highly effective people". I have only read the introduction and the first habit. Its a book I would recommend reading. Checkout out how I feel about the book and what I have read so far. I will keep posting more information on different habits as I get through them. I hope you enjoy it as much as I am enjoying the book.
This is a very interesting book for me to read. I feel like Mr. Covey is talking to me in person. He talks about independence, dependence and interdependence in his introduction which was really a very big thing for me. The first thing he says is that we have to be independent for us to be able to be interdependent. Meaning we can work with other people and at the same time be able to make our own decisions without any problems. However this is not the most interesting thing he talks about in his introduction. He goes ahead to talk about how we see other people through what we want to see. We do not take the time to see others in their own eyes. Its most of the time, what is pleasing to us and what the society expects from us. I have to say that I have been there and done something close to judging others. We most of the time do not look for the problem within us; we try to find it in other people or blame others for our situation.
Meaning that we behave the way we do because we choose to. We make the decision to do the things we do. We choose to react the way we do, and most importantly no one can hurt us unless we give consent. It’s not about what they did to us that hurts us but the way we choose to respond.
Another important topic, which in this case is the first habit of highly effective people, is being proactive.
We need to take initiative in life and show that we are capable not only to ourselves but to others as well. To take initiative means looking for a solution to a problem and not being the problem. According to Covey, another way of being proactive is by focusing on the circle of influence. In other words, focusing on the things we can change and not those that we cannot change. We can however expand our circle of influence by the responses we choose to make in various circumstances.
The most important thing that I learnt from being proactive is the fact that we make mistakes and the responses we choose have consequences. When we make a mistake, we have to put that in our circle of concerns and learn from it. Meaning its the past, we can not change it, we have to keep moving. We should also do our best in the future not to repeat the same mistake.
I will apply the proactive part of the book in so many ways in my life. I have had events in my life where I have blamed people for certain things in my life. That is the past and I cannot change it. I can however focus on what I can change, for example the relationship with myself. Look deep within me and figure out who I am and then in return that will reflect in what I do and to others as well. In the future, as I go through my career as a journalist and all the other roles I will assume, I want to let people be who they are. I would like to be the best leader I can be and the first way to doing so is by understanding self, and the positive energy will be reflected on what I do. Eventually everyone I will be working with will feel the energy. In other words, the biggest lesson of the day for me is to be independent, meaning that I can initiate and be confident in my ideas. I hope we can all learn from this and do out best to know ourselves before we can try to understand others. Look within yourself and search yourself..... you will be amazed what you will find out.. Good luck everyone..

sociological approach
I would like to apologize for not posting something yesterday. That however does not mean that I did not do something to better me in this journey towards becoming a better writer and thinker. I definately did. I talked to one of my good friends about wanting to be a writer and as always he was very supportive and encouraged me to go ahead and do this. He said I should take baby steps when it comes to reading. Try and read a chapter of a book everyday and then reflect on it. Write my thoughts on what I read and that should help me do better in my writting. He also went ahead to say the same thing Rose had told me, read, read, and read more. I have to say that I feel like I have no choice right now but just read. May be not my thing, but I will definately try.
That was yesterday.
What have I done today to better my writting? I tried to read afew things here and there and I have to say not all of them were interestiing. However I read one of my friends blog and he is asking the question whether Africa will go hungry forever. He says the reason behind the hunger is the fact that we have a higher population and the food production is not big enough to support the high population. I have tried to analyse that article and look at it in a sociological perspective but its just not coming together. I need to revisit my theories and see what direction am going to take. Once thats done, I will let you know what my take is on this one.

I talked to my friend Rose about writting. She is a very good writer in my opinion, and the first thing she told me to do is read, read, read and read more. Then comment on what I read. The question is what will I be reading? I guess blogs?? She also said I should comment on what I read. So.... I do not like reading, but I will try my best to atleast read a blog every day and comment, then I will go to reading books and so on.Hopefully this will make me a better writer and thinker. As always, I will keep you all updated.
My first blog
So i decided to start blogging today and see if this will help me become a better writter. I have never written anything serious before and this is going to be the beginning of my journey as a writter. I will post something everyday on my blog about what I did on that particualar day to become a better writter. I have my fingers crossed and lets see where this takes me.
Good luck to me.
Good luck to me.
